Diabetes
Cameron
I was laying in my bed
I was home from school and I was wondering what kind of work I was
missing In school and Then I fell asleep. The next thing I knew my
dad was driving on the highway while my mom was reading directions
off of a map. I turned and saw my sisters They said, Mom he's awake.
I asked my mom Where are we going?
She
said To the hospital.
Why
are we going to the hospital?
I finally found out why I was
getting taken to the hospital. The doctors told my mother and my
father why and then they told me. They told me that I've became a
diabetic. I was thinking about how I was going to spend the rest of
my life I did not even know what diabetes was. My parents were scared
because they did not know what it was either so that's how it was, I
was sitting in a hospital bed getting all this information that I
couldn't comprehend I had to learn how to use my needles and make
sure my blood sugar was okay every day. A lot of stuff to learn that
I will use for the rest of my life.
It really was not bad at the hospital I mean I got to play video
games and the food was not all that. Bad but I'd rather not to have
even gone to the hospital in the first place. At the hospital all of
the doctors were really nice to me and they were all understanding
about what I was going through. There was one really nice doctor that
I liked his name was justin and he would always joke around with me
and make me forget why I was in the hospital in the first place. Well
after that I finally left the hospital. My family and I went home. My
mom and dad went through my house and replaced all of the bad food in
my home with good stuff. We were thinking that I could not have the
sugar snacks, but the first check up I had with my diabetes doctor,
he told me and my mom and dad that it was ok for me to have all the
sugar stuff. I would just have to take a shot for it.
When I had first gotten back from the hospital I did not do my own
shots. I had other people do them because I was scared of them. I was
only nine years old. It was a big responsibility for just a kid. By
ten years old I was doing everything on my own. I was doing all of my
own shots and watching where my kit is at all times. Of course having
diabetes is not the best thing in the world, but it has became a life
style . After getting diabetes I have became more
responsible.Diffrent from the other kids when I am having fun I have
to stop and check my blood sugar and make sure I am ok. But at times
it got really hard I would get picked on and called names like
diabetic freak and things like that.If I would get into a argument
with someone they would use it to pick on me for it. But overall I
think that getting diabetes has made me more responsible. It really
does not matter that I have diabetes. I am still a normal kid like
every one else I have just to test and take shots after I eat. I
still get depressed once in a while but other then that I'm okay with
it.
